Maker Spotlight - Caroline Rudge

Maker Spotlights: each day we will be focusing on individual exhibitors, exploring their work and finding out what makes them tick...

Caroline is an artist with many strings to her bow. Passionate about painting, Caroline uses the traditional medium of Egg Tempera and gilding to bring her figurative paintings to life.

Her portraits reference historical and medieval themes whilst exploring the self as characters. When asked what her favourite tool is, she tells us, “a paintbrush. The smaller the better”!

Caroline is also an avid printmaker and teaches workshops at The Pound. Turning her hand to many different techniques, Caroline works as a stop motion animator and has recently been awarded a coveted Developing Your Creative Practice grant from Arts Council England to develop her animation.

With all this going on Caroline says, “my studio is organised chaos.” However she mentioned that she has recently cleared some space for a plan chest by getting rid of an igloo. We're intrigued!

Caroline’s favourite part of being an artist is inspiring and challenging others, as well as the beautiful act of creating something from nothing. “Art is who I am and what I do. It’s always been there.”
