Maker Spotlight - Bloemen & Blue

Maker Spotlights: each day we will be focusing on individual exhibitors, exploring their work and finding out what makes them tick...

Libby is a contemporary cyanotype artist using one of the earliest photographic processes dating back to the 1840’s.

Inspired by a childhood beside the sea, a passion for swimming and the natural garden of Wiltshire’s rolling hills, Libby produces prints in a palette of blues from its hints to its depths.

Using the alchemy of the sun’s rays on iron compounds, Libby tells us, "the thrill of what feels like alchemy and the anticipation of an image appearing before your eyes I still find quite mesmerising in my practice today."

Having been taught how to develop black and white images by her father at a young age, the move to work with cyanotypes is a relatively recent passion. Libby says, “with cyanotypes many uncontrollable factors there is always an unpredictability to the results and some of the best prints appear as ‘happy accidents’ making each one original and unique.”
