Maker Spotlight - Kerstie Walthall

Maker Spotlights: each day we will be focusing on individual exhibitors, exploring their work and finding out what makes them tick...

Kerstie is a curious, creative craftswoman. Through her artwork, she tries to connect with her inner child, choosing mediums that she’s drawn to in the moment or going with the flow of creative energy.

Her current passion is using botanical inks to print silhouettes of seasonal leaves, though when inspiration flows, Kerstie is always drawn back to sculpting and doodling.

Kerstie started out as a silver jewellery designer but after a few years of making she found she was no longer enjoying working in silver, a fixed medium that she felt confined by. Following a period of emotional unrest, Kerstie changed her focus to her spiritual self, taking walks in nature and joining a meditation group. “With fresh eyes, I tried all sorts of creative projects and classes. From sewing to clay sculpture, illustration, calligraphy and more”. Kerstie now works in a mixed array of materials and techniques, using her intuition and natures oracle as guides.

Having transformed her garden shed into a craft workshop, Kerstie creates art journals and learns new skills such as ceramics and ink making. She has found that her art, “has helped bring me out of the fog and given me a release for my creative energy”.
