Maker Spotlight - Cheryl Cork

Maker Spotlights: each day we will be focusing on individual exhibitors, exploring their work and finding out what makes them tick...

Cheryl is a graduate from Falmouth University where she worked in wood, plaster, fine metals, glass and clay.

Cheryl chose to specialise in clay for the pleasure of losing herself in the meditative process and was drawn to its organic qualities. Her recent work is a mix of hand built textured clay elements as well as some wheel thrown functional pieces.

From her garden studio, looking out over a garden full of flowers, Cheryl’s work requires patience – she tells us, “patience is needed as the clay needs to be worked at various times during the drying process”. For Cheryl, experiences in life can spark inspiration - an emotion, a view, beauty in nature.

The arts trail offers Cheryl a place and time to talk to other enthusiasts and practitioners and when it comes to viewing and appreciating ceramics, Cheryl firmly believes that, “ceramics need to be held”.
