Maker Spotlight - BSPK Design

Maker Spotlights: each day we will be focusing on individual exhibitors, exploring their work and finding out what makes them tick...

Jo Moorshead of BSPK Design has worked as a jeweller for 20 years, creating bespoke jewellery in precious metals.

Working from her home studio/workshop, Jo works mainly to commission. She says, “I absolutely love making! Using my hands and creating something new and unique and finding new ways to do this all the time.”

Jo uses ethically sourced gemstones and refined/recycled silver and gold where possible. She loves structural shapes, clean lines and simple contemporary design. She is also fascinated by gemstones which inspire and guide her work.

Being a jeweller has made Jo’s life very fulfilling - “being able to do what I love by making things for other people that they love and wear for the rest of their lives. I consider myself very lucky to be able to do it for a living.” A typical day for Jo involves ordering gold, silver and gemstones for commission, then once in possession of the materials, rolling down the metal to the appropriate size and shape before beginning the process of cutting and making it into the desired piece.“ Admin tends to wait until the evening when the children have been tucked up in bed!”
